Happy New Year – 2018

It’s gray, wet, and cold outside.

You thought Florida was supposed to be warm, right?

I know I did.  Occasionally it has it’s share of Seattle/London-like weather, which is a glorious change from the Summer’s blistering heat.

Seriously, I’m actually enjoying this.

Enough about the weather, let me give you the cliff notes on what went on from that January 2015 post to now.  Here are the highlights. (will clarify in more detail in later posts):

  • Stage 72, NYC

I completed my first one-woman show in New York with the help of my manager and friends in April 2015.  It was well received.

  • Documentary on me came out in November of 2015 as a film student’s documentary titled “Janifer Cheng’s Unfinished Karaoke Symphony”.
  • Around that time, I met the man who is the love of my life, through some mutual friends.
  • Through a series of events, that included the loss of my job and my apartment roughly at the same time, my boyfriend and I decided to fast forward our plans a year and have me move down to Florida to be with him.
    • I went from being single to being in a relationship with a man with three young children, each with different needs.
  • In 2017 I landed a job, got my drivers license, and here we are.

I do have a lot of things to be grateful for and as for right now, the focus is to create a better me, and I have come to realize from hearing from folks that all of us generally want the same thing:

To be happy in our own skin.

So let me share my current bit of inspiration:

I’m currently reading Mel Robbins “The 5 Second Rule”, which is pretty straight forward.  If you watch the video included with this post, it should give you the nitty-gritty.  The book, in itself, goes into granular detail on how you can use the principle in different aspects of your life as well as testimonials, pulled from social media, from those who have tried the technique and the science that backs up the principle.  The rule in itself is simple and can honestly be explained in a 2 minute conversation, so why the book?  It’s the proof for those who are skeptical and poo-poo personal development as pseudo-science.

You can pick it up from Amazon for $16.99, or on Kindle for $9.99, or do like me and borrow it from the library first, before you decide you want to buy your own and bookmark/highlight the bejeesus out of it.  If you click on the image of the cover art on the left, it will take you straight to Amazon.

It’s a simple read and pretty easy to go through, but I’d suggest trying it out while reading, since the proof is in the pudding.

I only started applying this tool the past few days and I’m starting to see small meaningful changes.  My boyfriend is also trying it too and it’s a great time to start, especially when working on pushing through your New Year’s resolution.

As for the direction of this website, I’ve decided I’m going to share with you my toolbox, like Mel’s book and others I have drawn inspiration from along the way.  I’ve been blessed to always be given these nuggets of wisdom, in some form of another, and instead of keeping it under wraps, I’m just going to give you the dish.

As a Christian, we are asked to give a portion of our time, talent, and treasure back to the community.  Every religion has their own practice on it.  This will be my own.

I hope you continue this journey with me as I practice sharing with you my time, talent, and treasure, so we can equally benefit, and please share, so that others may as well.  First hand experiences are always better.

I hope 2018 shifts your life into a level beyond your wildest imagination.
