Update – We’re Getting The Band Back Together…

Got a video update for you… and it’s starting to remind me of The Muppets.

Then again, The Muppet Show was awesome, so what am I being weird about?

And below that is a recording of me singing Grace Potter’s version of Beyonce’s “Why Don’t You Love Me” with Jason Sprinzen on guitar. Once you watch the video, you’ll understand.

…and yeah, there’s a sliver of info about “The Voice”.

Let me know what the good word is, and thanks for watching & listening! ^_~

Video Happy

Let me tell you a short story…

Last week I went and auditioned for “The Voice”.  Ironically, the judge I got this time around was the same judge I got last season, and he gave me a “maybe”, just like he did last time.  When I asked him what I needed to improve upon to make it to the next rounds, he said I had to stop being so “showy”. Upon further explanation, he said that I needed to be mindful of the size of the room and that I needed to do the exact opposite of what most people are told to do at auditions and pull back.  He also made note that he loved my voice and loved my whole rock/soul thing, and that he could really see me on the stage with a mic performing it, but it was still going to be a maybe.

So…  As a power singer, I’m supposed to pull back on my power chops for an audition regarding a show that has at least three power vocalists this season… two which are going to the live rounds…

…I’m sorry, but I really don’t think I can accept that response.

So I’ve decided to submit directly to casting in California.

Yeah, I can be stubborn like that.

Because of it, and the fact that I’m not able to travel to any of the other cities to try out again this season, I have recorded video of me singing with a couple of different ideas.  You can check them out below.  Please “like” them on youtube when you get a chance. ^_^

Thank you to The Human Karaoke Experience & Crash Course Karaoke for letting me film, thank you to Dancing Joe & Kristina for filming me, and thank you for watching!

London for Christmas

Hey sugars!  I hope you’ve been doing well!

I’ve been pretty preoccupied here, returning full time back behind the scenes at Media Mind Candy.  For those that don’t know, MMC was a blog I started back in 2008 to list down sales and events going on in New York.  It’s evolved since then and some of my blessed writers have taken on the wheels of the blog while I was doing the show.  So I’ve come back to writing reviews of places in the city, in the middle of a weekly karaoke spot review.  Might as well take advantage of what I know, right?  But check out the daily deal there as well as on the twitter account @MediaMindCandy for #WhatWeLove.

I’m still writing articles for my tech blog Digital Meanderings, which now has a wider online presence, with homes on Facebook, Tumblr, and Google+.  Check it out, when you get a chance, it’s still young.

As for London, I will be there for the weekend of Christmas.  So if anyone wants to meet with me, sing, have me perform, let me know!  It’ll be my first time in the UK and I’m really excited to be going.

If you’re wondering who’s that fella in the photo who looks like Father Christmas with me, that’s George R. R. Martin, the writer/creator of the “Song of Fire & Ice” series aka, the hit HBO series, “A Game of Thrones”.  I met him last night and thought I’d share the photo.  Very high point in geekdom for me, since I’m a fan of his “Wild Card” series.

In the meantime, if I don’t get to post beforehand, happy holidays everyone and may you have a blessed time!  I look forward to sharing and experiencing with you all of what 2012 has to offer!

Love you!

And the winner is…

The votes are in and…

…unfortunately we did not make the cut this time, but hey, at least we were nominated, which counts.

Thank you to everyone who voted for Lovari and my video Haters.  We appreciated all the support.

Just like the lights on Broadway, we keep shining!

Just thought I’d share this with you though.  A new fan sent me this link over the weekend.  I met this gentleman while singing the day before Thanksgiving out in the city, and after hearing me sing my first song, he decided to video me singing.  He shared with me the link, and I’m very grateful, and now I get to share it with you.  Thank you so much, sugar. :-)

Have an awesome Sunday, everyone!

Interviews, Nominations, & Surprises!

Hello all you beautiful people!

First of all, happy November everyone!  I hope you’ve been enjoying this beautiful Fall weather!  October turned out to be a surprising month for some of us and I’d like to send out some congrats to a few friends.

First, wanted to send a congrats to my sista, Shantel Norman on her new website and her tribute to Amy Winehouse “You Know I’m No Good” featuring Lyrical.  Keep grinding, girlfriend.  ^_~

Congrats to my dear friend, Gregg E Moore on the creation of his troupe, Vintage Entertainment and on the booking and performances of his shows.  I wish you many successes, my friend.

Congrats to my boy Pedro Haro on the 2 week extension of his production of Little Shop of Horrors, going on now.  He’s playing Seymour.  This is pretty much late breaking news as of 3hrs ago, and if you’re in Oahu, Hawaii, GO HEAR HIM SING!!!  You can thank me later.

Congrats to my dear team NY members Brandi Thompson & Dayna Gross on their engagements to their loving boyfriends!  I’m very happy for you both and for all of you to have long and prosperous marriages!

And congrats to my girl, Sara Syms on the success of her band The Ashen.  Keep going girlfriend, you know I have your back. ^_^

Yep, there’s a lot to be thankful for, and I’m no exception…

1. This interview aired on “Under the Pink Carpet” on PBS, Channel 25 in New York all through the month of October…

This was the performance where I actually “broke” my foot on my way to the venue, but still took the stage anyway.  Thank you to Lovari, Fred Anguera, Lady Clover Honey, and all those who were a part of putting this together.

There’s more good news…

2. “Haters“, the music video by Lovari, featuring me has been nominated for “Best Dance/Electronic Video” at the 2011 RightOutTV Music Video Awards.

The winners will be announced on November 27th.

3. As many of you know, my day jobs is as an admin in the new technology sector in the business development unit at a major record label (yes, I still deal back jack, mainly poker these days, so ABC Television didn’t get it wrong).  To placate a side of me I’ve long suppressed, I’d decided to allow two of my world to collide: my former journalistic side and my geek tech side, and what came out of it was a new blog I christened “Digital Meanderings: Response to Tech News and Other Trivial Matters“.  The concept was originally tech news with some personality and my own brand of humor.  Since it’s inception, the site has consistently brought in some pretty good numbers for a blog that doesn’t have anything more than occasional facebook, twitter, and tumblr promotion.  What’s also interesting is who’s been reposting my blog posts.  NYTimes tech podcast editor Pedro Rafael Rosado admitted to being a fan of my commentary (then again, he’s also a friend, so he understands my humor).  He’s been known to retweet my posts to his followers on facebook and on twitter, as well as Maxim editor and former editor of Rolling Stone, Joe LevyThe Humor Gazette and Pod313 Tech Tips has also followed suit, and this has been within one month.  I’m grateful for the love so let’s see how it develops in November.

4. You may have heard a buzz grow around about a possible documentary.  We are not talking about major studio production, but there’s documentary talk going around.  I can’t go into full details, but basically it’s being negotiated right now.  If things work out, don’t be surprised if you find someone following me with a camera for three months or more.  No, I’m not kidding.^_^

5. As for my single “One More Time”, the drop date has been pushed back by my producer.  Once I get some more information on it, I’ll let you know.  If you want a taste of it, listen to the intro and the credit background music for a teaser of my upcoming single  “One More Time”. ^_~

6. There’s also word down the pike that two interviews I did over the Summer will be released to the public soon.  Once that happens, I’ll let you know.

Enjoy your week and stay sexy!

Love,

-Janifer ^_~

One more thing…

I’m going to be dealing Texas Holdem poker at the MS Charity Poker tournament in Port Chester, NY on Saturday, November 12th.  First prize is a seat at the upcoming World Series of Poker tournament out in Vegas.  Those who are interested in playing for a good cause should stop by.  To register, head over to their website:

Looking forward to seeing some of you there next Saturday.
