Taking Steps: Day 7 – Giving Permission

I’m going to make this one short, since it’s after midnight and I really need to get myself to bed for tomorrow.

Today a friend of mine told me that a word that I gave her on New Year’s Day of this year was the very confirmation that allowed her the confidence to move forward to expanding her dream.  She gave herself the permission to go forward, knowing that it was definitely the right path to take, and now she’s going to be heading on a new adventure.  I’m glad for her.

The reason I make mention to it is this.  You need to prioritize and give yourself permission to add things into your necessary column that may not be considered necessary to others.  Example: tonight I altered my monthly budget to include rehearsal studio time.  Although not weekly, at least for the beginning, I made enough wiggle room to add it in because I’ve been using the excuse of funds to be why I haven’t been able to move forward on my band work.  Finding time wasn’t going to be an issue, if it was important enough for me, so why is finances any different?  I gave myself permission, and although for some it may be an unnecessary luxury, for me it’s working on a goal that I’ve pushed back long enough.  It’s working on a direction that needs to happen.

So for the last 3-4 hours, I’ve been reworking my budget, bypassed my nightly reading, to make this happen.  You need to decide in your life, what is important, and I’m not talking about that which you need to survive, but that which you need to cultivate the future that you want.  What does that include?  Does it include going back to school?  Does it include a part time job?  Does that include learning a new language?  What does it look like to you?  When re hard-wiring your life, like I’m doing right now, you can’t always preserve the basics, otherwise, just like a diet, it will make it really easy to cheat, and that’s the last thing you want to do.  You have to give yourself permission to, not cheat, but include the things that will fulfill you, otherwise, you’re not feeding into your soul.

Today I contacted one of my guitarists, Jason, to find out the price of the rehearsal studio he uses.  I’ve also given the heads up to one of my drummers, Jeremiah, to let him know we may be going into the studio soon.  The way is being made.
