A lesson I learned this evening. There are times when you should follow the rules and times when you should break the rules. You need to answer these questions though to consider which one is which:
- Who made the rules?
- Are these rules inappropriate?
- Are these rules hurting or handicapping me?
- Why am I following these rules?
- What will happen if I break them?
- Is that risk worth it?
If you, like I, once believed there was no reason not to follow the rules, think about it this way.
- The state of Kansas once had a law in their books that made it illegal to have ice cream with a cherry pie.
- A person may not walk around on Sundays with an ice cream cone in his/her pocket in New York State.
- In California, its a misdemeanor to shoot at any kind of game from a moving vehicle, unless the target is a whale.
Question the rules that dictate and confine you, and consider overhauling those that make absolutely no sense.
